My World 2: Golden Gate Bridge

27 Oct

golden gate_Page000, originally uploaded by airam94564.

What could be more a Northern California trademark [even the entire California for that matter] than the Golden Gate Bridge? Our beloved Golden Gate Bridge been romanticized on movies and tv shows and has been a favorite structure to destroy in sci-fi and action movies.

Every day in my commute at Eastshore freeway, I look forward to that spot where I could glance to my left and see this imposing structure in the middle of the bay. Most of the time, it’s obscured by fog, but the mere thought that it’s there to my left makes my day. I thank my lucky stars I get to see this on a daily basis.

GREAT shots! And I’d be hard-presed to think of something that is a more well-known icon for California. You are lucky indeed!

That is the reason I had to post about it this early to get it out of the way and focus on things non residents might not know about. Thanks for the visit.

Great post…Beautiful photo’s. I have been over that bridge a few times when I was a kid. It is so very pretty!
    Take care

I’ve driven it, but didn’t cross it on foot yet. That’s my next assignment. Glad you had a good memory of it.

The Golden Gate Bridge is a classic for sure. I’ve never been to California but I recognize it when I see it. Wonderful photos of it!

Such a recognisable shape. I believe even the colour of the paint was specially created for the bridge.

Re: paint. I believe so too. Appreciate the visit.

Ewok: That is a structure that when seen yu know exactly where you are located.

Exactly. On the other hand, after this I cannot summon anonimity. πŸ˜‰

Wow, one of the world’s ‘must-see’ places, it’s beautiful! Thank you for sharing the photo, and I loved the words that went with it: you’re so lucky!

I am lucky. I keep reminding myself that, especially when the rest of the country are paying about a dollar less of gas, I tell myself that I pay a dollar extra for the views of the bay. πŸ˜€

    I’m a bit of a bridge-a-phobic, but it’s magnificent from a distance!

There’s lookout areas where you can view it without crossing it. Just as pretty from a distance πŸ˜€

Wonderful photos, and you are right about it symbolizing California. You almost instantly think of one if you think of the other.

I made a mistake in my blog–IMac is not retiring…but if I am seeing correctly Tom is. It is on the My world page–the first paragraph after the Title My World Issue II.

Yes, Rose, I went back and read that paragraph. I’m sorry why that piece of info just slipped out of my brain.

All great shots but I particularly love the one taken on the bridge with the traffic.

We don’t always see that image of the bridge. I like that one too.

Wonderful shots of the golden gate bridge. That is so synonymous with San Francisco and you did a great job capturing it.

Synonymous—that was the word I was looking for to describe this. Thanks Carver.

    Golden Gate Bridge is California.
Well, maybe the redwoods and Yosemite share some of the limelight.

Look forward to seeing more of your world.

Well my lucky stars have led me to you and others like you whose posts I can visit for another look. My daughter was also recently in SF and brought lots of pics home for me to feast my eyes on. Once you have seen SF through the eyes of a knowlegable local, you never forget it.

Next time, it’s your turn to come for a visit.

Thank you for the wonderful tour. This 2nd week of meme really makes us appreciate the many places that we don’t usually see or ever had a chance to visit like the one you showed me in this post. Hope you get to have time to check my world too. Another great job and more to come in the coming weeks.

I checked your post and I marvelled at the beauty that you featured. I can’t get enough of it, especially since it is my native land. Hope to see Boracay someday.

    Hi ewok,

You asked in a comment, what a name day is. Here it goes.
In the olden times a nameday was a celebration like a birthday among catholics.
You had a lot of Saints and Patrons floating around – at least one for every day. Let’s say your name was Peter – your name day would be celebrated on St. Peter’s day. And back then most names had a religious background. While nowadays almost forgotten, a nameday is still being celebrated in rural, predominately catholic areas in Europe.

    Cheers, Klaus

    Hi Klaus,

Thanks for the information. I think this is akin to a nun’s or priest’s feast day. I hoped that name day continues. It’s such a wonderful tradition.

Yep, the bridge is “home” for me too… I love to go down there and pretend like I’m a tourist…

And I love that view of the bridge from the Berkeley area as well…

Probably no chance of seeing the bridge today — it’s foggy as heck, as you know…

I love your bridge photos Don. I envy all those bay area photogs who wake up really early and capture the bridge shrouded by fog. Oh, I love to do that one day. Is the Marin Headlands the best place to shoot it in early am fog?

True, Even sweaters that daddy brings home has the golden gate bridge printed on it!!!
EAch of the photo gives it much of a character!!! The view on the biggest one, I bet you were driving by again! Have a nice week!

Tita Ewok would love to see the young ones in their GGB sweater/shirts.

The bridge is great… conjures up a ton of memories. I think the last time I was in the bay area, was when I drove from San Diego to Seattle – maybe 10 years ago.

Ten years is a long time. It’s high time you come back for a visit. My SD visit was four years ago and I can’t wait until I get back and see more. I fell in love with Old Town SD, so much good chow.

    American Cities:

New York City the most exciting one
Washington D. C. the most historical and patriotic one
Orlando the most fun place to visit and relax
San Antonio the best of Texas and the wild west
and then there is San Francisco
the most beautiful city in America!

Oh that is so sweet. You know of course I totally agree with you πŸ˜€

    Beautiful post.
In Orthodox church we have everyday a name day for every name. For example on 26th of October is the name day of St.Dimitrios and everyone that has this name have his name day celebration.
My name day is on 1st of September.
Visit my blog to see my post about our national holiday.
