My World 8: Christmas In San Francisco

08 Dec

The beauty and charm of the city by the bay has inspired many artists.  Not only is the city chosen as locales for movies and tv shows, it also inspired a lot of songwriters.  My mission is to track down these songs.   For my initial showing I am bringing you a song that is not known outside of the bay area, it’s called Christmas in San Francisco, which was originally recorded by Vic Damone.  Lyrics below.

Here is Russ Lorenson’s version of the song:

CHRISTMAS IN SAN FRANCISCO

Christmas in San Francisco
What a lovely place to be
Seeing the hills being all lit up
Like a diamond Christmas tree
Hearing children singing carols
People come from everywhere
To sing along with the children
Standing all around Union Square

Christmas in San Francisco
Looking like some fairy land
People with gifts in the crispy air
Giving old Saint Nick a hand

Let’s take a peek in Chinatown
Eating lychee nuts and barbecued boar
What can you say about the Golden Gate
That hasn’t been said before

Christmas in San Francisco
There is no place quite so dear
It’s the closest thing to heaven
How I wish that you were here.

What can you say about the Golden Gate
That hasn’t been said before
Christmas in San Francisco
There is no place quite so dear
It’s the closest thing to heaven
How I wish that you were here.

I like your post and it is a wonderful way to show people the world you live in. I grew up in Alameda, and there is a magic to the City by the Bay.

This is a lovely post. In my early 30’s we lived in Monterey and we would take a trip up to San Francisco whenever we could. It is a beautiful city and I love the Christmas song. He is an excellent vocalist. Thank you so much for dropping by my blog. I really appreciated the visit.

Great post for christmas. My brother lives in San Francisco and I’ve enjoyed it so much the few times I’ve made it there.

Thanks for visiting mine and yes fishing is allowed at Falls lake. There are a lot of different recreational areas there and at some spots boating is allowed, fishing at many, and a few places for swimming (although way too cold now).
