My World #88: Drive By Shooting

20 Sep

Each time I go to the city, I begged to stay a while longer after our errands were done to enjoy the wonderful Victorians, Queen Annes, Italianates, etc. I have yet to do a photo walk around the streets of San Francisco to capture these lovely houses. However, a few months ago, over an unfortunate circumstance, we found ourselves driving really slowly around the streets of Alameda, a city in the East Bay that is known for its Victorian houses. I was doing double duty, keeping my eye on the thing that we were looking for and also drive by shooting. Here are a few of the pretty little houses I have snapped. They’re not all Victorians. Enjoy.

I hope you keep this tiny town in mind next time you come to town. I have to schedule a return visit just to photograph some more houses.

Great shots of the beautiful old houses. My brother rented an apartment in an old house that reminds me of these when he lived in San Francisco before he got married. He and his wife bought a house in Mill Valley after they had kids so no longer live inside the city but I loved the old house that was converted to hold several apartments where he used to live. The whole neighborhood was full of beautiful houses like these. Some were single family homes but others were converted to hold several apartments. I don’t remember his address from back then though.

I love these homes, but they are just way beyond my budget. The green VW van is so adorably parked in the house.

I just look bec I know they’re out of my reach. I have to go back and see some more.

I love the VW Bug too. I thought it added character to the house.

I love these old houses. They look so “American” – the Queen Annes, Victorians and Edwardians here have a different something to them.

Just gorgeous, Ewok!! There are quite a few old houses in the small city near our town, and I love to drive around there just to bask in their atmosphere. My husband would call the first two of these “Kay houses” because he knows I love the old verandas.

Oh…they’re all charming and so different from one another. I always wanted to live in an old house like that. I guess they’re a lot of work to keep up though. I’ll take the last one – the big brown one!
