My World #81: Carnaval Mural

02 Aug

Mixed among blocks of warehouses and running almost a block in San Francisco’s Mission neighborhood is a mural titled CARNAVAL. The mural is located on Harrison at 19th Street. The Carnaval mural is a representation of the Carnaval celebration that the city hosts every last weekend in May since 1978 – almost always coinciding with the Memorial Day weekend. Carnival is a multicultural dance and music festival that has its roots in Latin America and the Carribean. In 1994, the Carnaval mural was created by Joshua Sarantitis, Emmanuel Montoya, Carlos Loarca and others. The radiant Carnaval mural is as dynamic and colorful as the festival that it portrays.  [source]

Photos were taken during the 2010 Carnaval celebration in May.
