Sky Watch #88: San Francisco Blues

29 Apr

Symbols of California – Golden Gate Bridge, California poppies, and Blue Skies.

San Francisco is a beautiful diverse city with friendly and opinionated people (that’s not always bad, you know).  She is willing to share every thing she has with everyone, just don’t use the F word when referring to her.  You know the F word.  Still don’t get it?  Don’t refer to her as FRISCO.  She and her inhabitants don’t like that.  You’ll be marked as outsiders instantly when you use that term.  Around these parts they call her THE CITY or sometimes SAN FRAN which most locals tolerate.  Now that’s a bit of a trivia today. I should have shared this with MY WORLD but seeing that the same people are participating in these memes would save me from duplicate postings.

SKYWATCH is a weekly gathering of sky watchers and sky lovers.  Join us.

Fun San Francisco info. I’ll remember that although I think I’ve always said San Francisco. When my brother moved from San Francisco to Mill Valley, I started saying he didn’t live in the City any more but was still in the area. So I guess that context I call it the City instead of by name.

Beautiful shots of your beautiful city. I love the flowers against the blue sky and the first shot is cool with the bridge in the background and the flowers up close.

when i first moved here, my brother warned me about the f word, so i was pretty much in the know from the start.

I LOVE that first shot! I love it! It’s an amazing perspective shot. Great flower in the foreground, wonderful bokeh in the background, where you can make out the wonderful landmark, but the beauty surrounding it becomes the feature. I love this shot!

I know about the “F” word. My grandmother loved SF and wouldn’t alow the use of the word. She prefered to end her years alone in the city rather than live in LA with my parents.

Great shots and the framing on the first one is amazing. You were either worked hard for that or were very observant, probably both.

I forgot to reply to your comment on the polaroid effect. Windows Live Writer has a lot of features I like but my photos would not enlarge, clicking opened a new window but the photos stayed the same size. I have found that if I use the polaroid plug-in they do enlarge, not as well as using blogger but good enough.

Oh well done, that is a beautiful frame to a popular landmark.

To answer your question, yes many people in the country have be-friended a koala but they are not an indoor animal. They have long claws to hold themselves up in a tree. Sad to say that most of the colonies are endangered now due to the loss of habitat. They have gone from being a common sight in my area to a rare event.

Stunning shots. That first one is perfect, with the gorgeous flowers, the unusually clear sky, and the city’s signature bridge in the background. And the second one would be a great SWF shot all by itself.

I am not a local to San Francisco but…I knew that! Isn’t that amazing! I love these photos, especially the first one. I love the blurry Golden Gate Bridge and the drooping flower is so typical in a cluster like that. What an eye you have!

I left my heart in San francisco in 1977. I was there in the summer and it was so beautiful. When I came Auckland to live, as I landed here, I felt I was in San Francisco again.
