Come with me as I take you to a new festival – new to me – not too far from where I live. It’s the Tomato Festival in Fairfield California. Fairfield is located 42 miles from both San Francisco and Sacramento. It is home to Anheuser Busch brewery and the Jelly Belly factory.
It was a hot August day with temps in the 90s but the breeze made the hot and dry temp bearable. We came on Saturday, which we found out was wrong timing as the bbq contest was happening the next day. Therefore we did not even have a taste of pulled pork sandwich.
Instead, we decided to sample different varieties of tomatoes. It was after all a tomato festival, so why not taste some tomatoes, right? We paid 2 bucks per head and entered a huge tent where volunteers like her give out samples. She also tells you what you are tasting, etc, etc.
Ready to see what we tasted? From here on there will be more photo and less text okay?
So, which one has the best cyber taste fellow tasters? Personally, the one I really love wasn’t pictured here. I had some brain freeze as I forgot to snap a photo of the small pink tomato variety called Juliette. Yes, we brought some tomatoes home. They are after all grown in this valley.

This is a new festival to me too! I love the varieties of the tomatoes, especially the banana legs. Funny and interesting. Although I love tomatoes, I can’t have too much acid!

What fun. Those all look great to me. I would have to look up my favorite tomatoes. I used to grow many different varieties and I have them listed in a notebook but I can’t remember anything off the top of my head.
Thanks for visiting mine and the fall colors on the trees is from an early November 2008 shot. The dogwoods are starting to change colors here but it will be close to a month before most trees are change to fall colors.

I do love tomatoes and a tomato festival would be just right for me! Our tomato season is so short I stick to tomatoes grown in pots and share with the squirrels and birds! Thanks for the treat!

I just loved seeing all the pics of tomatoes. And what a bargain at only $2 to taste all those yummy looking things. Did any of the booths have any fresh salsa whipped up? That would be my favorite – with ANY kind of tomato! What a fun excursion you took us on today for MyWorld!

wow! that orange tomato is a huge one! I love green tomato. In the Philippines its a usual side dish and a dip also (with soy sauce)

What I wouldn’t do for a real tomato that tastes like a tomato… I don’t understand this mass producing of tasteless tomatoes – why bother? I guess most tomatoes are grown now as garnish for McDonald burgers.

The Kellogg’s Breakfast has my mouth watering. And I could see frying up some of those Tenn greens. They even smell like tomoatoes from here.

Banana legs – LOL. My mouth is watering now, growing my own tomatoes is the thing I miss most since I don’t have a garden anymore (and a pretty dark balcony).

I’m going to give the Yellow Ruffled best of show, but I have a to find and plant the Kellogg’s Breakfast next year and Mortgage Lifter bi-color. I always have Mortgage Lifters, but have never seen the bi-color ones. I love the flavor of bi-colored tomatoes.
