The Week That Was

26 Nov

Thanksgiving is over and people are back at work; I am.  What happened in the last week you ask?  Here:

*Went to Thanksgiving service for the first time.  Church was full.  Met old friend GG at church.

* Hubby did the turkey, without brining it first unlike past years, but turned out so well, so juicy.  Each year he takes a different course in making it, and yearly it seems to turn out better than the last.

*We did not have the turkey until 9 pm that night, as we were all invited over at my brother’s house for lunch with some of the family members–no turkey there.

*After lunch, we all trooped over to watch on the big screen pictures from brother’s and SIL’s recent trip to London-Paris-Rome.  I was more envious of their photos than going there.

*Ex-navy nephew followed up the slide show with his own, pictures he took while in the navy.  He could take good pictures (again I was green with envy)!  He showed photos of climbing Mt. Fuji, and various ports they’ve visited, including one with ex-prez Clinton on one of his visits.

*Picked names for our family’s secret santa for this year.  Why did we not think about this in the past?  I love my family, and I know they love me too; but buying all those presents can pose quite a dent on the budget.  Now, we only buy one present, but all the kids still get presents from every one—they’re exempted from this rule.

*Left brother’s house to visit septuagenarian couple who have adopted and treated my husband as their “good son” (their exact words, which they use when introducing him to their friends) and me as their DIL.  We brought them Thanksgiving goodies/dinner in case they did not do any turkey.  Hubby and adopted MIL always try to outdo each other in cooking and especially in the desserts category.  We left before we could get their/her opinion on my (yes my, I made it) personal pumpkin cheesecake.

*Came home in time to see Grey’s Anatomy and devour turkey.

*Check internet for Beowulf screening time before retiring for the day.

*Black Friday is red light day for shoppers, not me.  I have in the past either watched a movie or went on vacation on this day.  This year, we went to see Beowulf.  Not bad, not good–how’s that for a movie review?

*Went home to put up tree, trim it, and put up lights in the backyard.

*Continue the lazy weekend Saturday with us staying home and doing chores and putting up more lights.

*Went to eucharistic service for the feast of Christ the King.  Sunday was also our “monthly wedding anniversary” so we thought we’d go for brunch after church.  The restaurant we picked was still closed when we got out of church.  So, we decided to go with our favorite cheap eats place, an Indian restaurant housed in a warehouse, called Vik’s chaat house.  We were in Berkeley anyway so it was the best choice.  I was surprised to see the place full and buzzing.  We ordered vegetarian pakora and samosa cholle.  That was enough for us.  I was ogling other diner’s pani puri though.  I will get that next time.

*Now time to shop, my turn.
