My World #31: It’s Cherry Picking Time

When I first moved in the Bay Area, my SIL and brother took to me to cherry picking in Brentwood.  Nope, not the OJ Simpson Brentwood, but the Northern California agricultural town Brentwood.  I had a lot of fun.  At that time, the place was all agricultural lands where miles and miles of orchards can be found.  I’m sure you know what the deal is with fruit picking.  One gets a bucket and enters the orchard, picks fruits and samples the produce, and then picks some more and the yield will be weighed outside the orchard.

That was my one and only time I went to cherry picking, although I thought I would return every year, until two weeks ago when our friends sent us an invite and picked us to go cherry picking.  In the mid 90s with the boom of real estate, many of the farm lands were converted into housing.  I was even expecting to see very little of the orchards to be still around.  There’s quite a few of them, I found out.  We went to a roadside orchard for cherry picking where I took these photos.  I picked enough for us and some for my co-workers, then we moved on to another orchard where peaches, plums, pluots (hybrid of plum and apricots), apricots, blackberries.  Plums were ripe but the other fruits are not yet ready to pick. It’s always nice to see a lot of people going to the farm/orchard and pick their fruits. I especially love to see kids seeing where their fruits actually come from.
